2026 of August : A Conceptual Calendar
"2026 of August" is a calendar inspired by traditional Japanese almanacs and the tear-off calendars of Greek grandmothers—two cultural practices where time functions not merely as a measurement, but as a vessel for memory, rhythm, and everyday wisdom.
It consists of 365 detachable pages, one for each day of the year. Each page acts as a trace of a passing day, while the reverse side reveals a fragment of collective memory: poems, folk songs, proverbs, feast days, "evild-eye" rituals (xematiasmata), and recipes, forming small daily rituals. The calendar serves as a modern folk archive, where orality and nostalgia meet contemporary graphic design.
A Temporal Paradox
Its temporal structure challenges linearity. August 2026 counts down to August—the symbolic month of the Greek summer and memory. After August, time does not move forward; it persists. The days continue to be recorded as if the month never ended: August 45th, August 78th. This intentional paradox offers a humorous and ironic commentary on the modern Greek condition, where time only gains meaning through the anticipation of a summer that never truly sets.

To ensure your August 2026 calendar remains a beautiful companion throughout its unique journey, we recommend the following:
-
The Daily Ritual: When removing a page, pull gently from the top to maintain the integrity of the binding.
-
Protection: The calendar is made of premium natural paper to honor the tactile feel of traditional almanacs. Keep the calendar away from direct splashes or heavy steam to preserve the legibility of the "daily wisdom."
-
Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to direct, intense sunlight may cause natural fading over time—much like a summer memory. To keep the colors vibrant, hang your calendar in a well-lit but shaded spot.
